Veterans Affairs Whistleblowers Coalition
Veterans Affairs Whistleblowers Coalition (VAWBC), founded in April 2005, is an independent and nonpartisan alliance of whistleblowers that have come forward to address weaknesses in Veterans Administration Institutions specifically by informing authorities of research violations and other mistreatments of veteran patients. In some cases it has involved waste, fraud, abuse of power, and criminal misconduct.
The VAWBC is dedicated to aiding Department of Veterans Affairs whistleblowers through a variety of methods, including advocacy of governmental and legal reform, educating the public concerning whistleblowing activity, provision of comfort and fellowship to Veterans Administration whistleblowers suffering retaliation and other harms, and working with other public interest organizations to effect goals defined in the VAWBC mission statement.
The VAWBC membership is exclusively comprised of current or former federal employees or civilians working for the Department of Veterans Affairs who, to their detriment or personal risk, bring to light deviations from acceptable medical standards of care, sub-optimal medical care and/or mistreatment of veteran patients as defined by accrediting medical organizations affiliated with medicine, pharmacy or nursing. In some cases this may include patient harm or death, fraud, waste, and abuse in government operations and agencies when such improprieties compromise the safety of veterans.
Since Congress is more likely to respond to a large constituency and time is crucial, we will offer auxiliary affiliations to any and all United States veterans and veteran groups to assist Veterans Affairs healthcare providers in exposing ethical flaws that may have already affected their fallen comrades. Inclusion of an active veteran group will give some ownership to the victims of this national injustice.
